Raahauge's Fun Shoot - 10.9.2012

This was my Dad's last Sporting Clays event for a couple of months because he is going in for shoulder surgery tomorrow... and boy was it a great day at Raahauge's!

The weather was more beautiful and clear than I have seen it in a long time, one of those perfect days for breaking some clays. My Dad, myself, Rick Finger and, this time, my nephew Jerami Causey came out to enjoy Raahauge's monthly Sporting Clays Fun Shoot. Plus, my Fiance Sarah, Step-Mom Karen and Sister Jennifer came out to finally see what we have been talking about non-stop since we got into this great sport. My Dad and I both continued improving our scores a little bit at a time scoring a 57/100 & 77/100. But Jerami blew us all away with his impressive 18/50 because today was only the 3rd time he has even fired a shotgun. Great job Jerami!

The Raahauge's clan must already be getting ready for the big 2012 California State Shoot coming up next June because the entire course was changed up again. And, this time, they even added several completely new stations with some very challenging and entertaining target presentations.... not to mention, pretty much every type of target you can imagine. Over 100 shooters came out to compete today including one of the biggest names in Sporting Clays, Zachary Kienbaum who scored a near-perfect 99/100. Incredibly, local shooter Jake Jones also scored a 99/100 and after a tense shoot-off Zachary Kienbaum took HOA. I've never seen anyone shoot a 99 at the Raahauge's Fun Shoot but it looks like Zachary & Jake just raised the bar for us all.

As always.... It was a great time, Great Food, Great Friends.... It just doesn't get much better than this.

Big Bonanza Blast - Sunday 10.2.2012

My Dad, Rick Finger and myself headed back out to Moore 'n Moore Sporting Clays in San Fernando to enjoy some 'Moore' 1st class hospitality and a great day of shooting. 102 shooters came out for the Big Bonanza Blast. The weather was perfect, the sky was clear and the target presentations were as varied and as entertaining as ever. Ricky started out rough and didn't shoot as well as he would have liked (still beat me by the way). On the other hand, my Dad and I boosted our scores by quite a bit, scoring a 53 and 69 respectively. I was also lucky enough to win a highly-coveted Moore 'n Moore wooden target trophy which can now be seen presiding proudly over my desk constantly reminding me that I would much rather be out on the Sporting Clays course than in my office earning money for future entry fees and ammo. Fun Shoot at Raahauge's Sporting Clays

Myself, my Dad and our good buddy Ricky Finger hit the Raahauge's Fun Shoot this afternoon in Corona, Ca. The weather was perfect for a guy who sweats alot (overcast and cold) and the whole course had been recently reset which made things a little more interesting. I decided to shoot without my Magic Dot glasses today and I must feel more comfortable without them because I increased my score by several points. However, the Magic Dot is definitely a preference thing, because my Dad shoots much better with them on. I may try them out again at some point, but for now, I'm ditchin' the dot.

First Time at Moore n' Moore Sporting Clays

My Dad and I finally made the trip out to Moore N' Moore Sporting Clays for their Big Bonanza Blast and we had a great time! It says right there on their website "Southern California's Friendliest Shooting Range" and there is little doubt about that. Not only did they put together one heck of a fun competition, but they also cooked up a mean lunch and had cold beer on tap.. what 'Moore' can you ask for?!

Moore N' Moore holds Sporting Clay competitions in Southern California almost every weekend. For a list of upcoming events visit SoCalClays.com
